Looking for a new way to decorate for the holidays?  Look no further than your water fountain.  It does not matter whether it be an outdoor water fountain or an indoor water fountain.  Flowers dress up any kind of hard scape, so add poinsettias around the base of the water fountain and you have created a whole new look and the added humidity from the fountain will help your poinsettias last longer.  If you have a large foyer in your home and have a tiered water fountain, place small potted plants, Christmas amaryllis or any other Christmas flower all around each tier to add color and drama to your entrance.

With a little imagination, a water fountain can become a beautiful focal point  in your home.

Make An Outdoor Water Fountain Into An Indoor Water Fountain

Most of the time an outdoor water fountain is only used in the outdoors.  However, when purchasing a garden water fountain consider how it might be used indoors as well.  Especially if you live in a northern area that has an extended winter, you could make a negative into a positive.  Instead of enjoying the use of your water fountain only during nice weather, look to your home’s interior and see how you can bring nature and the beauty of moving water inside.  As long as the fountain can be moved, there really is no reason it can’t be brought inside.

The easiest type to move inside would be a table top water fountain.  Chances are that the table used outdoors can be used indoors and means no further expense will be needed.  Just unplug, clean the water fountain thoroughly, set up your table in the living room, bathroom, dining room, bedroom or entrance hall.  (Placing a water fountain in your entry area is a wonderful way to instantly welcome family and friends any time they stop to visit you.)  Plug it back in and enjoy all through the cold and gloomy winter.

There are other types of outdoor water fountains that may be brought indoor also.  Wall water fountains could be brought indoors as long as you have a strong support and an electrical outlet close by.  Even a freestanding garden fountain could be taken inside if it isn’t too large to move and you have the space for it.

An item, no matter what it is, is more worthy of the money if you can use it in more than one way.  It’s another way to recycle!

Before you know it, the winter won’t seem so bad because the soft sound of trickling water is filling a void in your life and helping you maintain peace and tranquility.

So, if you have put off purchasing a water fountain because you thought it was a little frivolous, then make the decision to purchase with the intent  to use  it all year round.  Now that’s good shopping!

Getting Ready for Winter

The calendar says it’s fall, but this weekend’s forecast sounds like winter!  Time to get ready for cold weather.

Hopefully you have already accomplished a few things during this fall to get your home ready such as cleaning out the eaves drops of leaves so that it can flow freely, caulking windows & doorways to eliminate heat escape.  One thing many may not know is that your furnace and flue should have a proper inspection and cleaning to ensure efficiency and safety.  Not only does it provide better heating and safety for your family but also should avoid any malfunction on a bitterly cold night leaving you with no heat until you can get a serviceman to fix the problem.  Many times you have no alternative but to pay overtime and your costs are more than if you would have had  the maintenance performed to start with.

Another item in need of attention is your outdoor water fountain.  If you live in an area that freezes during the winter then there are precautions to take to prevent damage to your garden water fountain.  Drain all water and clean the bowl or basin.  Allow to dry thoroughly.  Then cover with a fountain cover to prevent snow, ice or rain to fill it again.  The water fountain cover will keep it dry and protect it from the elements until spring arrives and you can start enjoying it again.  If left outside with no cover most likely you will have cracks and lots of damage to your water fountain and be seeking ways of repair and more costs next spring instead of just a quick hook up.

As usual, an ounce of prevention saves oodles of dollars.

Water Fountain Care

To enjoy your water fountain

Special care for copper & stainless steel

for many years regular maintenance should be performed.  General cleaning once a month for smaller fountains and every 2-3 months for large fountains should prevent algae or calcium build up.  Empty the water, use diluted bleach or white vinegar to scrub inside and then rinse with clear water.  (Remove the pump first)  For stainless steel water fountains never use bleach or anything containing bleach because it could eat away at the steel.  Just simply wipe with a clean dry or wet cloth.   For copper water fountains, use a furniture polish to keep the fountain clean. Do not allow the polish or water to sit on the copper for a long period of time.  Do not use CLR or a copper cleaner if you wish to keep the patina as it will remove the finish that is hand applied.  The changing of color of copper is the natural aging process that makes it have character.  You can apply a coat of turtle wax or car wax to keep the shiny copper appearance if it has a powder or clear coat to prevent the aging process.  Common sense and regular attention to your water fountain will go a long way in many years of trouble free use.

Create Comfort With Water Fountains

There’s never enough time to complete all the items on the ‘honey do list’ each day. Hectic from sunup to sundown. Rushing from point A to point B. No time for enrichment. Does this sound like your life? Then create a comfort zone somewhere in your living environment by adding a water fountain. Consider where a water fountain could be the most productive for you. If the office is loud & hectic you may not even be able to hear a water fountain.  If you have a busy family life then a water fountain

A water fountain will help lull you into a more restful and deep sleep allowing you to arise the next day recharged. A water fountain will bring you comfort that didn’t exist before and fulfill a way for you to begin each day renewed and ready for a day of life.

Did you know that you can decorate a water fountain not just decorate with a water fountain?  Let’s say you have purchased a simple tabletop water fountain.  You have it where you want it but it looks a little dull – it doesn’t have your stamp on it.  A simple way to make it have your personality is to add some grass to it.  Some tabletop water fountains could have silk flowers added to them to go with your color scheme and decor.  If you are one to decorate according to the seasons or holidays, your water fountain is a perfect way to make an unexpected arrangement.  Actually any indoor water fountain may be enhanced with grasses, flowers or foggers.  Just use a little imagination to create a water fountain that makes more of a statement and adds an elegant touch.

Summer has really flown this year.  Soon the colors of fall will be brilliant, cool crisp days are just around the corner.  Even though the weather will be changing to much cooler temps and many of us will be forced to spend more time inside there will still be plenty of time to enjoy the garden water fountains in our outdoor space.  If you chose a tabletop water fountain then you can continue to enjoy it by moving it to become an indoor water fountain.  This is a great way to stretch your enjoyment of your water fountain to year round pleasure.  If you were still thinking of purchasing an outdoor water fountain now, consider looking for this feature as you are shopping.  The garden water fountain can be made to look entirely different in your home instead of in your yard by choosing a different base for it or adding some artificial grass to the water fountain for a bit of color and to bring nature in during the cold winter months.

Indoor Decorating

My house right now is filled with boxes a partially assembled Ikea table and clothes everywhere.  Let’s face it, I’m not the most motivated person when it comes to unpacking after a move.  Yet, I have a plan for how my place is going to look like.

For one thing, once I get a proper coffee table, it’s going to be accented with some great looking indoor water fountains.  These will add a necessary serenity to my home, as well as make a really cool sound.

Sleep Well

In their quest for a solid night’s sleep, insomniacs will go to even the lengthiest extremes. What if the safest, most effective way to a restful 40 winks came not from some prescription sleep aid but from an indoor fountain? Water and fire fountains are well suited for creating a peaceful evening glow in a darkened room, and the fire can be turned off.

Left with nothing but the soothing sounds of running water, even the most restless sleepers have little choice but to succumb to slumber. Multifunctional water fountains may be enjoyed just as much at night, and many people swear by their calming effects. Sometimes the answer to a chronic problem is startlingly simple.
