Strategies For Beating Stress

A certain amount of stress can lead to productivity and creativity but too much will lead to mentally and physically damaging effects on your body.  Negative behavior may take the place of normal control of bad habits such as smoking and drinking, and junk food binges.  The next thing you know colds and the flu, depression, high blood pressure and memory loss will follow.  If stress persists for years conditions of heart disease, diabetes, ulcers and premature aging is common.  So, here are some ideas of beating stress in your life before it gets the best of you.  Get out and socialize.  See friends and relatives – don’t hibernate.  Let your emotions out – don’t hold them in.  Watch a movie to help you laugh, cry, get angry – all at the TV not your spouse or children!  Exercise will help lift your spirits.  Take a walk and look for new neighbors, flowers, anything to get your mind going in a different direction while physically doing something.  Try to do some form of exercise three times a week for at least 30 minutes each.  Eat healthy.  Absorb yourself in your favorite hobby or past time once a week- be it reading, gardening, or sewing.   Talk to others that have been through hard times and see how they worked through it and what they learned along the way.  Pray and/or look to help those even less fortunate than you.  If at all possible make a quiet place in your home to relax and rejuvenate.  Add a table top water fountain to enhance the atmosphere or put a water fountain
